Mindful Living: The art of restoring inner calm

For most human beings, mindlessness is on autopilot which is the cause of reckless behavior but this can be changed with practice and it is highly important that we adapt to mindfulness as every action has a consequence. Mindfulness helps us to be aware of the quality of our thoughts and change them when they are negative thoughts.

For example, so many people eat fast food every day without thinking about the consequences. Have you watched supersize me, an American documentary film directed by and starring Morgan Spurlock, an American independent filmmaker? If not, watch it. You will learn that after consuming McDonald's meals 3 times a day for 30 days straight as an experiment, Morgan Spurlock gained 11.1 Kgs of weight in 30 days, increase in BMI by 13% and his cholesterol increased to 230 mg/dl. He developed fatty liver syndrome, headaches, lethargy, and mood swings. The experiment took a toll on his health and he wanted to prove a point here that fast food is not healthy for humans. Most people binge on fast food mindlessly. This is just one example of mindlessness but with close introspection, you will realize that our mindless behavior is not just restricted to diet and eating but people buy things they don’t need by spending money which they do not have to impress people who don’t even care. Before they know they end up in major credit card debts. As a result, they are stressed out, relationships suffer and their health suffers due to stress. So, we don’t realize that there are a lot of adverse effects of mindlessness.

If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired. If you want to change your future, if you want to improve your wellbeing you need to change from being mindless about your actions to being mindful about your actions. Once you form a habit of being mindful, mindfulness will be on your autopilot. So, let’s review the benefits of mindfulness.

Mindfulness improves emotional and physical wellbeing by reducing stress. It calms down the inner chatter in the mind and improves your focus. It will improve relationships. When people are mindless, their behavior is reckless. In an event of even a minor dispute or disagreement, they will react without thinking about the consequences of their behavior. Mindfulness teaches you to respond to the disagreements like a mature adult. It can salvage any relationship. Mindfulness will increase mental stamina, focus and reduces burnout at work. Mindfulness should not only be practiced during meditation but one should form a habit to implement mindfulness in their daily lives 24/7. Be mindful about what you eat and the quality of your food. Be mindful about how you spend your time, money and resources. Be mindful and keep moving throughout the day. This is the right time to learn mindfulness and restore your inner calm to achieve optimal well-being. Want to learn mindfulness? You can view my services and download the brochure here.
