How Sugar Sneaks Into Our Food

These days with diabetes, blood pressure, and other chronic diseases on the rise, it is highly important for us to be mindful of what we eat. We have to realize that manufacturers sneak in sugar in various forms into our diet. That's why it is important for us to be aware of what goes into the food we eat. Sometimes we think that we are eating very healthy food but that is not the case.

Here are some basic rules to follow:

  1. More shelf life lessens your life. (Manufacturers add preservatives to the packaged food to increase the shelf life of the food. These are chemicals. Even though they are approved by FDA, there is not enough research to know about their effects on our bodies. Our bodies are not used to absorbing these chemicals, so the result is inflammation and chronic diseases)

  2. Choose the food which grows on plants instead of food which is made in plants.

  3. When you read labels, If you cannot pronounce the name of the ingredient in the food, don't buy it. (Most of the chemicals and preservatives which are added in the packaged food are to either increase the shelf life or to enhance the flavor. They are designed in a way to create addiction so that no one can eat just one. They harm your health and create inflammation and chronic diseases.

  4. Go back to home-cooked meals. If you don't have time, prep in advance but avoid eating out. If you have to, choose a place which cares about what goes into their food.

  5. Learn to read food labels and take the time to read them when you shop for your groceries. Do not consume GMO's (genetically modified foods).
