Savor the simplicity and wholesomeness of this Whole Wheat Roti – a staple of Indian cuisine that embodies the art of nutritious and delicious dining. Gently brushed with ghee, these rotis emerge golden and inviting, ready to accompany your favorite curries or stand alone as a versatile and wholesome flatbread.
Ingredients:
2 cups whole wheat flour
Water (as needed)
Salt (optional)
Ghee (for brushing)
Instructions:
Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, add whole wheat flour. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft, pliable dough. The dough should not be too sticky or too dry. If desired, add a pinch of salt for taste. Cover and leave the dough for 30 minutes. Now apply some oil and knead the dough again till it’s soft and smooth.
Divide and Shape:
Divide the dough into small, golf ball-sized portions. Roll each portion between your palms to form a smooth ball.
Rolling the Rotis:
Heat a griddle or flat pan over medium-high heat.
Take a dough ball, dip it in dry flour, and roll it out into a thin, round roti on a floured surface.
Cooking:
Place the rolled roti on the hot griddle. Cook until you see small bubbles forming on the surface.
Flip and Cook:
Flip the roti and cook the other side. You can use a kitchen towel or spatula to gently press down on the roti, encouraging it to puff up.
Brush with Ghee or Oil:
Once both sides are cooked, brush the roti with ghee for added flavor and softness.
Serve Hot:
Repeat the process for the remaining dough portions. Serve the whole wheat rotis hot with your favorite curry, dal, or accompaniments.
