What are ayurvedic superfoods? A beginner’s guide to the Pranic diet.
Ancient Ayurvedic scriptures have categorized food into three categories: Satvic, Rajasic, and Tamasic. Satvic foods are pure, balanced, and offer feelings of calmness, mental clarity, and focus; Rajasic foods are highly stimulating, while Tamsic foods are believed to increase laziness and lethargy. Some also categorize them as foods with positive pranic value, neutral pranic value, and negative pranic value. Depending on your dosha, you can include Satvic and Rajasic foods while eliminating Tamsic food from your diet. The word pranic is derived from the Sanskrit term Prana which means the vital life force. Pranic diet includes the pranic foods that categorize foods based on how they affect your lifegiving vital energy or prana.
To make it easy for the global community, we will call them ayurvedic superfoods in this blog. Superfoods are very similar to pranic foods. These are foods packed with healing life energy. For example, when you plant an apple seed, under favorable conditions it will eventually grow into an apple tree. A chicken drumstick cannot grow into a chicken. Hence while an apple will give you life energy, a chicken drumstick won’t. To me, a dead body cannot give life energy. Yes, It can give you protein but not life energy. These are foods packed with nutrients and full of life energy, or prana. They are nutritional powerhouses packed with phytonutrients and antioxidants. They are all-natural, organic, non-GMO, and mostly plant-based. They have unique healing properties and health benefits. They provide a substantial amount of nutrients to nourish your mind, body, and soul. They are nutritionally dense, power-packed with nutrients, antioxidants, phytochemicals, and soluble, as well as insoluble, fiber. They are locally grown and produced. They have greater bioavailability. Most of them have healing properties and are anti-inflammatory. They are lively, vibrant, and full of life energy or prana. This means, that when you plant them, they will grow into a new plant.
